The Tax Appeal Tribunal has reiterated its commitment to an effective and efficient tax dispute resolution and assured taxpayers, legal practitioners, business owners and citizenry of a fair tax dispute adjudication process in line with the rule of law.
The Coordinating Secretary of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, Mrs Anita Erinne, made the points at the 2025 Tax Clinic, organised by the Emerging Taxpayers' Group of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, on the theme "Tax Clinic for Tax Clarity".
The initiative of Tax Clinic is designed to provide small businesses, entrepreneurs, and informal sector taxpayers with essential knowledge on tax education, tax compliance, strategic tax management, and access to key government and professional services.
The concept was unveiled by the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, during the 2025 Emerging Taxpayers’ Group (ETG) Tax Clinic held at Marcellina's Place, Ikeja GRA, Lagos State.
In his remarks, the FIRS Chairman, Dr. Adedeji reaffirmed FIRS’s commitment to building a people-centred tax administration system where understanding of tax obligations, rights, and the value of their contributions to national development, compliance is no longer a burden, but a civic responsibility.
Dr. Adedeji said the agency’s broader reform agenda now included the deployment of digital tools such as TaxPro-Max and taxpayer segmentation models to make tax processes more efficient and accessible.
Recognising its role in resolving tax disputes and promoting fair adjudication, the Tax Appeal Tribunal set up a dedicated service desk at the clinic and provided valuable insights into Tax Appeal procedures, dispute resolution processes, and taxpayer rights.
Also speaking at the event, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, SAN, provided an overview of the legal frameworks guiding tax dispute resolution and underscored the importance of building trust between taxpayers and tax authorities.
The clinic explored practical sessions on challenges in tax administration, compliance barriers, record-keeping best practices, and dispute resolution mechanisms. It also featured expert presentations, interactive panel discussions, and one-on-one advisory desks aimed at offering practical support to taxpayers.
